Large gourds and small gourds have been used by every culture as utilitarian objects embellished in many ways.  We will make and explore the use of stencils with a single design motif to create an original, one of a kind, decorative gourd with color pencils.

Students will be guided step-by-step through the process of:
1. Preparing and dyeing the gourd and beads
2. Choosing a single design motif.
3. Making stencils in 3 different sizes.
4. Using basic elements of design including Positive and Negative Space.
5. Using color pencil techniques to decorate the gourd.
6. Taking home a beautifully finished gourd.
